Dior Rosy Glow Blushes

Dior Beauty seems to be reformulating all of their products and the latest I’ve tried is the new Rosy Glow Blush ($40 each). Now available in six shades: Pink, Coral, Rosewood, Cherry, Berry and Mahogany. There are lots of mixed reviews on the new formula. After testing all the colors here are my thoughts. I also swatched the coordinating Addict Lip Maximizers to go with each blush shade. I know the Lip Oils are the more popular lip option from Dior these days but I really prefer the Lip Maximizers for the texture and colors.

I think the new formula performs just as well as the original for most of the colors. Color-wise the Original 001 Pink pulled a deeper more pigmented pink on my skin while the new 001 Pink pulls more true to pan and has a lighter baby pink finish. I think they are both really pretty on the skin. I like to use the pink on top of other blushes to add a pop of color.

Texture and finish depends on the color. I really love the colors Coral and Rosewood. The pigment is easy to control as these blend easily and layer nicely for more color. Coral makes for a really nice peachy summer color and Rosewood is your perfect year-round neutral.

I found the deeper bold shades to be really intimidating in the pan and initially thought Cherry, Berry and Mahogany were shades I would never wear. I didn’t buy them at first, but in the effort to try something new and different, and to give you a thorough review of the formula, I decided to order them anyways!

Cherry was a nice surprise with a red flush. Application is smooth and easy to blend out.

Berry has an intense color very contrasted with my skin but blended out ok. I wouldn’t call the application seamless – it did take some work to blend but it’s workable.

Mahogany was a streaky patchy mess and took a lot of blending to try to even out. Even after blending it still looked very uneven on my skin. I tried it as an eyeshadow and there is something about the undertone that doesn’t sit right with my olive skin.

Overall really happy with Pink, Coral and Rosewood. There are lots of beautiful powder blush formulas that launched this season and I think there is something for everyone.

That wraps up my Dior Rosy Glow Blush review! I think they’re beautiful. I don’t know that I would call them must-haves but they perform well, quality is there and I think the bold colors are fun for a more colorful look. The formula is really nice, but color-wise I feel like I’m more drawn to the Gucci or Armani powder blushes this season.

Have you tried the new blush launches this season? What formula is your favorite? Or are you reaching for colors in your current stash?

I bought my Dior blushes from Sephora. Also available at Ulta Beauty and Dior.

Pat McGrath Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm

Today I’m continuing my blush review series with a look at newness from Pat McGrath. She launched a balm blush called the Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm ($29 each), a new Luxe Eyeshadow Quad called Passion Fleur ($62) and a Highlighter Balm Duo in Xtreme Cyber Lotus ($58).

I have four of the balms plus the quad that I tested to review. You can find them now at Sephora and Pat McGrath Labs.

Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm

Pat McGrath Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm

There are six shades of the Divine Blush Legendary Glow Colour Balm. I was sent 3 to test and purchased an additional shade to try. These are glowy balmy twist up sticks that give a soft wash of color with a dewy glass like finish. I’m usually not a fan of balmy dewy cheek products. They’re often too glossy in finish, have a sticky feel and rarely last long especially in humid weather.

  • Paradise Peony is a beautiful soft peachy pink
  • Divine Rose is a soft rose pink
  • Peach Lotus is a soft peach
  • Forbidden Fleur is a berry plum

Pat McGrath Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm

Pat McGrath Divine Blush: Legendary Glow Colour Balm Divine Rose

After testing these I have to say that I don’t think they’re for me but they are exactly as described so I feel like I can’t give these a bad review. They’re hydrating and dewy and perform just like you’d expect a balm to. Colors sheer out once blended and give you that radiant fresh glow. Unfortunately on me it’s too glossy and glass like. Texture is on the thicker side which makes them adhere to the skin and stay put much longer than expected. However my hair gets stuck constantly on the cheeks.

On the lips they’re lovely but I prefer her other lip balm formulas for the lips instead. You can see them applied in action below. For skintone reference I’m wearing the Skin Fetish Foundation in Light Medium 14 (reviewed here). It’s still one of my favorite foundation formulas for a classic medium coverage finish.

Colors are absolutely beautiful and very wearable. The finish is just not for me, even if I layer a powder blush on top.

Luxe Eyeshadow Quad in Passion Fleur

Pat McGrath Labs Luxe Eyeshadow Quad in Passion Fleur

I ordered the Luxe Eyeshadow Quad in Passion Fleur and absolutely love it. I am not a fan of purples on me but the matte eggplant is really pretty and very wearable as a liner or crease color. I think the other shimmers in the palette are just breathtakingly beautiful. They are very sparkly but they’re not glitters. Lasting power is excellent and the shades layer beautifully together. A solid thumbs up and I kinda like that it’s not the traditional bronzey or peachy eye palette you usually see for summer (even though I live for those kinds of shades).

Pat McGrath Labs Luxe Eyeshadow Quad in Passion Fleur

I do think if you’re a fan of dewy cheek products (I know a lot of you are) that you will really enjoy the balms for Pat McGrath. I can see myself maybe wearing one layered with powder for a nice evening out if I want to look fresh and glowy. But for everyday they just aren’t my cup of tea.

You can find them now at Sephora and Pat McGrath. Have you tried these yet? Are you a fan of cream or balmy cheek products?

Armani Luminous Silk Glow Blush

Armani Luminous Silk Glow Blush

Armani Beauty launched their Luminous Silk Glow Blushes ($38) earlier this spring. I’m late to the game trying these but after falling in love with 51 Amore I picked up more shades including one of the new colors 11 Warm Nude and thought I’d put these on your radar.

The Luminous Silk Glow Blush is a soft natural looking blush with a silky smooth texture. If you’re looking for a natural blush that is easy to apply with medium buildable coverage these are the ones to check out! Powders have a finely milled texture which makes it blend right into the skin.

Armani Luminous Silk Glow Blush

Lasting power is excellent (I love powder blushes in general). I have 5 shades now and all of them perform exceptionally well.

  • 11 In Love/Warm Nude is a neutral nude beige, on me it pulls more neutral-cool
  • 30 Offbeat is a bright apricot matte
  • 50 Euphoric is a golden pink, on my complexion it looks more like a highlighter, but if I layer this on top of another blush or cream blush the pink base shows more
  • 51 Amore is the perfect rose pink
  • 52 Ecstasy is a beautiful cool bright pink

My favorite is 51 Amore. I also love layering these together. The peachy ones 30 and 50 layer really nicely together.

Armani Luminous Silk Glow Blush swatches

If I had tried them all in person before ordering, I would have probably skipped 11. I think it will work nicely on lighter or cooler skin tones. For my medium tan olive skin it pulls a little too neutral. I prefer Laura Mercier Fresco or Charlotte Tilbury First Love for the perfect neutral blush (on my skintone).

Looks below with coordinating lip colors. For my base I’m wearing the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Concealer and Setting Powder all in Shade 6.5.

A couple more Armani mentions. I still really love the Luminous Silk Foundation formula. Everytime I use it I am just blown away by how smooth and naturally glowy my skin looks with this base. I use the Shade 6.5. The Luminous Silk Concealer is one of the best full coverage concealers I’ve used. I also use Shade 6.5 which pulls a little lighter than the foundation so it’s perfect for brightening. The Luminous Silk Glow Setting Powder is another favorite. It’s a glowy powder but not too glowy for all over the face. However if you don’t like any glow or shimmer all over it may be too much for you in which case I’d recommend trying either the Givenchy Prisme Libre Loose Setting Powder or Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder (my 2 holy grail setting powders right now).

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, Concealer, Powder in 6.5

It’s also been a while since I reviewed the Lip Power Lipsticks and I don’t think I ever swatched all the shades so here is the lineup of what I have. They’re creamy, full coverage, comfortable and have great lasting power.

I wear Shade 103 and 109 the most. I think those are the most wearable and flattering. They’re also the ones I get the most “what’s on your lips?” questions for. Shade 107 is a newer shade which ended up being a little too dark on my complexion. If you’re all about the 90s brown tones I think you’ll love it. For me I’ll probably save it for fall/winter.

Bottom line, love the Luminous Silk Glow Blushes. I wish they had more colors to choose from but I love what they have right now.

Makeup By Mario Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil

June 15, 2023

Makeup By Mario Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil

There’s a new blush from Makeup By Mario called the Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil ($30) and it seems to have exploded in popularity – it’s all over my Instagram feed! As a fan of many products in his line like the MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum, Ultra Suede Lip Pencil and Master Mattes I knew I had to try these new blushes. The colors looked fresh and easy to wear so I picked up 5 to try.

The Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil is a cream blush with a subtle luminous finish. Not quite shimmery but when swatched on the arm you will see a glow and it’s not just from the creamy texture. They have sheer to medium finish, leaning more towards the sheer side. Finish is dewy but it does have a slight drydown after it sets. It still remains dewy looking on the skin but not as dewy as when you first apply.

You can apply easily with the fingers or any blush brush or cream product brush. Formula works well with a wide range of brush types and textures. I tried it with the Laura Mercier Cheek Brush, NARS Cream Bronzer Brush, Chanel Brush 101 and also Chanel Brush 110 and a few of the MAC Duo Fibre brushes.

Colors include:

  • Barely Blushing is a nude pink beige (doesn’t show up on my skin)
  • Pinch Me Pink is a light baby pink (pretty but too pale for my skintone)
  • Perfect Pink is a pretty cool toned pink
  • Just Peachy is a flattering bright peach
  • Rose Crush is a pretty rose brown

Makeup By Mario Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil Rose Crush

I have mixed feelings on cream blush in general so my review is going to be biased. Most cream blushes simply do not last on my skin alone. I always have to set with a powder blush on top to make it last longer than 2 hours and even with a powder on top it doesn’t always stay.

Based on the feed back from many of you over the years, I think most of you love cream blushes and a dewy finish (like the Westman Atelier Lit Up Sticks or Chanel Baume Essentiel). If you’re a cream blush lover I think you will really like these.

Here are my thoughts: I love the colors. I think they’re wearable, fresh, easy to wear and there is a good color range to go with a wide range of looks. Formula wise they’re not my favorite. After testing these I would have skipped all of them except Perfect Pink and Just Peachy. Formula is ok, it’s not groundbreaking or exceptional in my opinion. They have an ok lasting power for a cream but for all day wear I need to touch up at the 3 hour mark or else I look like a dewy glazed donut.

Lasting power is definitely improved with a powder blush on top. There is a trend going on right now to apply this cream on top of powder blush and to me it really doesn’t make that much of a difference in terms of lasting power.

Bottom line: Colors are great but formula is ok. I’m not super impressed with the formula and while I don’t think it is bad, it’s not the best for lasting power. Definitely not the best for hot humid weather. If you like the dewy cream blush look I think you will love these.

I’m still working my way through all the new blush launches this season. On my testing list I have the new Gucci Luminous Matte Blushes, Hermes Silky Blush Powder (new shades), Pat McGrath Divine Blush Glow Color Balms and Dior Backstage Blushes coming soon.

Have you tried the Makeup By Mario Soft Pop Plumping Blush Veil? What did you think? Did you like them or are they a pass for you?

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder Bronzer + Iridescent Highlighters

March 14, 2023

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder

Hermes just launched their Plein Air H Trio Healthy Glow Mineral Bronzing Powders ($105) and Iridescent Powders ($105) in the US and I am so excited to have a review to share today. I fell in love almost immediately with the product description and demo video on the Hermes website. The powders looked perfect for that effortless healthy sunkissed glow and I was eager to put these to the test.

Given that these are extremely expensive I was surprised to find that many of the shades have sold out at a lot of retailers. Depending on which shade you want you may have to do some shopping around but they are available at Hermes, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus to name a few places.

These powders have 3 shades in one compact in a beautiful embossed H pattern. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see the compacts are larger than the other Hermes powders with 18 g of product. They are scented similar to the Rose Hermes blushes (reviewed here) but the scent dissipates after a while and I don’t notice it when it’s on the skin.

Plein Air H Trio Healthy Glow Mineral Powder

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder Bronzer 02 Atlas, 03 Sahara, 04 Sienne

There are 5 shades of the Plein Air H Trio Healthy Glow Mineral Powder and I ordered three shades to try. These have a beautiful silky texture with very good pigment, no excess powdery kick up, no hard-pan and apply beautifully on the skin.

I was really impressed with the level of pigment – they show up really well but at the same time are really easy to blend and sheer out. There is a tiny bit of shimmer in these but it’s more like subtle flecks of shimmer spread out on a matte base so on the skin they really look more matte.

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder Bronzer 02 Atlas, 03 Sahara, 04 Sienne swatches

Looks below wearing:

02 Atlas

02 Atlas is a warm light bronze, this pulls warm on my skin when used as a bronzer, I like this better as a soft contour to warm up the skin instead, wearing this with the Hermesistible Lip Oil in 02 Corail Bigarade (swatched here) on the lips

Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder

There are two variations of the Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder. Both have three different shades of highlighter in one compact. I swatched them individually and swirled and also next to the Plein Air Powder I just reviewed in Mirage.

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder swatches

On my medium tan skin these pull very light/pale. Pigment is medium but easy to control so you can get a sheer glow or a more intense highlight. These are very powdery and there was a lot of powdery kick up all over (even in my hair). I would recommend applying with a light hand. Both seem to have sold out everywhere except the Hermes website.

01 Rose Atacama

01 Rose Atacama is a mix of icy white, medium soft nude pink and a cool pink. On my skin this pulls very frosty since it’s contrasted with my skin. Since there is such a sharp contrast I found it highlighted my pores and texture. The Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Highlighter in Pillow Talk Glow is better suited for my skin tone as it’s not as white/icy (review here). Wearing it on top of the Bronzer Shade 02 Atlas and Hermesistible Lip Oil in 02 Corail Bigarade.

_________

02 Corail Mojave

I found 02 Corail Mojave more unique and better for my skin tone. This also pulls very shimmery with an icy white champagne, pale gold and orange copper shimmer. When swirled it’s more of a soft champagne gold. I didn’t have time to swatch comparisons but color is somewhere in between Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Highlighters in Champagne Glow and Gilded Glow (the CT ones have more pop to them, more swatches here). Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder in Peach Glow is more sparkly. Dior Nude Glow is more complex and slightly warmer.

Below wearing it on top of 03 Sahara Bronzer.

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder 02 Corail Mojave

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder 02 Corail Mojave

Overall I think the bronzers are the stand out for me with a silky smooth texture, natural finish and large compact size. I like Sahara the best for my skin tone.

The highlighters are stunning, but not a must for me. Shade 01 is too pale for my skin tone, even with a light hand. Shade 02 is beautiful but given the vast number of highlighters I own, I don’t think I could call it a must-have.

If you’ve been looking at these online and don’t have a counter to try, I hope you found this review helpful!

Bronzer + Blush Gucci Beauty

Gucci Beauty Luminous Matte Beauty Blush

September 19, 2022

Gucci Beauty Luminous Matte Beauty Blush

Gucci launched new cheek products called the Luminous Matte Beauty Blush ($49 each). I hauled 5 of the 6 colors to try. These are beautiful soft blushes with a luminous sheen. At $49 each they are incredibly expensive but I’m happy to report that each one performed well and I think they’re exquisite!

Texture is soft and smooth. I like that the pigment is medium but easy to build and layer without looking or feeling heavy. They feel very natural on the skin and blend in seamlessly. Swatching on the arm/hand doesn’t do the product – they look so much prettier on the face!

The Luminous Matte Beauty Blushes are scented with a strong floral scent. It seems to fade after a few minutes (or it’s a scent my nose gets used to).

Lasting power is very good. The color stayed put on the cheeks all day. I think the packaging is really cute too!

Gucci Beauty Luminous Matte Beauty Blush

01 Silky Rose is a light pink

02 Tender Apricot is a pale light peach

03 Radiant Pink is a healthy natural pink

04 Bright Coral is a soft coral

05 Rosy Beige is a mauve

Swatches of all five shades I hauled below:

Swatches on the face as well. For a more complete look I would have added some bronzer or highlighter for more depth and dimension but I just applied each blush by itself to give you an idea of what they look like alone.

It’s been a while since I did a dedicated Gucci Beauty review so in case you missed previous features, here are a few quick thoughts on some other items I’ve tried:

  • Gucci Natural Fluid Foundation in 280C – I love this formula for a traditional satin fluid foundation. It has medium to full coverage with a natural finish. It is long-wearing on me. Has a slight blurring effect.
  • Gucci Matte Beauty Powder Shade 05 – This is a nice pressed finishing powder with a natural finish. Has sheer coverage and looks very natural. Has a sweet floral scent.
  • Glow and Care Shine Lipstick – These are some of my favorite glossy lipsticks! Lots of nice colors to choose from! Sally Soft Honey is probably my favorite!
  • Eclat Soleil Luminous Bronzer – I have 3 shades and like 03 the best for a nice warm bronze with a subtle glow. Shades 1, 2 and 3 reviewed here.
  • Multipurpose Hydrating and Nourishing Balm – One of my favorite multi-purpose balms! I love this on the lips for moisture. Wish it came in a stick or squeeze tube form, but the formula is excellent.
  • L’Obscur Lengthening Mascara – A nice lengthening and defining mascara I’ve repurchased several times. I think it’s worth splurging on!
  • Brume de Beaute Beauty Mist – This is a lovely bi-phase refreshing mist and can also double as a setting spray. Feels super luxurious and makes the skin feel refreshed.
  • Glossy Nail Polish – Love the shade Annabel Rose for a beautiful neutral. I have a couple other colors and really like the formula for an opaque finish, long-lasting wear and flattering shades.

Gucci Beauty Luminous Matte Beauty Blush Review and Swatches

Overall really happy with the formula and colors! If I had to pick just 2, I would say 03 Radiant Pink and 04 Bright Coral are my top 2. I still think they are overpriced (even if it is Gucci). But they perform really well and I’m happy with them.

Rose Hermes Silky Blush Powder + Rosy Lip Enhancer Review

May 5, 2021

Rose Hermes Rosy Lip Enhancer and Blush Review via The Beauty Look book

The newest additions to the Hermes Beauty lineup are blushes, brushes and lip balms in the new Rose Hermes Collection. The colors are beautiful, understated and elegant. Items are available at Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Selfridges and Hermes. In today’s review:

Silky Blush Powder

Rose Hermes Silky Blush Powder review via The Beauty Lookbook

The Silky Powder Blush is a soft matte powder formula that has a rose scent. The formula is a silky smooth powder I find has buildable coverage on the face. They are ultra lightweight in texture and adheres well to the skin without looking too powdery. The packaging is beautiful in design and comes with a magnetic snap top and mirror inside.

The powder is heavily fragranced so if you’re sensitive to perfume in makeup this is not the product for you. In terms of texture and coverage these remind me of a more velvety powdery version of the Laura Mercier Blushes for the natural coverage and satin finish.

When I first played around with the formula I was not super impressed, but the first color I tried was Rose Ombre which turns out to be my least favorite color. For my skin tone it looks a little dull and lackluster. I played with each of the shades and love the other shades. There are eight colors total right now, I ordered six of them:

  • 19 Rose Abricot is a light peach
  • 23 Rose Blush is a warm pink
  • 32 Rose Pommette is a medium rose pink
  • 28 Rose Plume is a soft pale pink
  • 45 Rose Ombre is a medium dusty rose
  • 49 Rose Tan is an orangey tan

Rose Hermes Silky Blush Powder swatches via The Beauty Lookbook

Overall I really like these! (All colors shown on the face below.) At $77 each these are quite the splurge and while I really like the elegant and understated look, I do not think I needed all of the colors I hauled. Do I think they’re worth the $77 price tag? Not really, but I am happy with the formula and wear. If I had to pick a couple favorites, I would say I like Rose Tan and Rose Blush the best.

Brushes

Hermes Brushes Cheeks

There are two brushes in the Rose Hermes collection which includes a small angled Travel Brush and an angled flat Blush Brush. The smaller Travel Brush is super soft and smooth and surpassed my expectations in terms of performance. It picks up product nicely and blends perfectly. It is on the small side, I would have liked something a little bigger but the texture and density is on point. For a brush intended for travel I do think having a cap or retractable option is ideal. Something like the Chanel Brush No 111, Brush 103, No 108 or Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush are better buys in my opinion for a travel face brush.

The flat blush brush is just ok. I do not think it’s worth the splurge. It performs well but I think it is pretty average. I think you would be better off buying something like the Chanel Contouring Brush No 109, Laura Mercier Angled Cheek Brush or NARS #21 Contour Brush instead.

Rosy Lip Enhancer

Hermes Rosy Lip Enhancer Review

I’ve saved the best for last which is the Rosy Lip Enhancer. These are tinted lipsticks that have a transparent finish and enhance the natural color of your lips. They’re like a waxier matte version of the Dior Addict Lip Glows. I find the Hermes Rosy Lip Enhancers give me a more natural kind of glow on the lips like the NARS Afterglow Lip Balm in Orgasm, but with a matte finish and different color. Dior Lip Glows tend to bring out a more vibrant flush on my lips.

They seem unscented to me. Lasting power is like a balm but the natural flush stays there for hours without fading on me. They have a lightweight texture to them.

When I swatched these on my hand and lips they looked nearly transparent, but give them a couple minutes on the lips and a lovely flush of color appears.

  • 14 Rose Abricote is a light peach, transforms into a healthy peach with a hint of pink
  • 30 Rose D’Ete is a brighter pink
  • 49 Rose Tan is a deeper dusty mauve rose, on my lips it looks like a healthy rose

If you’ve been holding off on these I hope you found this review and swatches helpful! The Silky Blush Powders are refillable with refills at $48 each. I’m not sure if the Rosy Lip Enhancer will be refillable, I don’t see them on the Hermes website yet.

While I really like the blushes I do think they are extremely overpriced, even for a luxury brand. The lip enhancers are winners for me because of the color on my lips but your mileage may vary as they’re enhancers and I suspect they will look slightly different on everyone.

You can find these at a number of different retailers. You may have to do a bit of shopping around as some shades have sold out quickly. I ordered from a few places including Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue and Hermes. Also available at Bloomingdale’s and Selfridges.
